Live Your Values: Bring Meaning to Your Life

I started my company in 2002—an amazing 14 years ago! Time flies when you’re having fun.

During this time, I have been privileged to support many people in my role as a leadership consultant and executive or business coach. I always describe my work as “transformative” because I help people live up to their potential and learn how they can be who they want to be.

find-meaning

The Chinese say that death comes to everyone, but it varies in its significance. My work is about life meaning, but not “finding” meaning. My passion is to help people create meaning.

People ask me, “What should I do with my life?” or “What is my life purpose?” What they’re actually asking is “What can I do with my time that is important?” The latter question is far more manageable and realistic than the “life purpose” question.

When people feel like they have no passion for their future, no purpose in their life, it’s because they don’t know what’s important to them—they don’t know what their personal core values are.  They essentially take on other people’s values and live other people’s priorities instead of their own.

If you want to discover the most important things you want to do during the rest of your life, start by writing your own core values: the set of beliefs and qualities you strive to live by. This simply takes some quiet thinking time and a values worksheet such as the one available here: Core-Values-Worksheet.

Take the time to imagine how you might create more meaning in your life. Joseph Campbell said “Life is without meaning. You bring the meaning to it.”

Passion is the result of action, not the cause of it.
